A SPECIAL CHARTERED CORPORATION TO LEVY AND ASSESS TAXES TO PROPERTY OWNERS IN THE LAKE HAYWARD TAX DISTRICT

INFORMATION FOR ATTORNEYS AND REAL ESTATE AGENTS

The Property Owners’ Association of Lake Hayward (POALH) was incorporated by Special Act 75-25 approved on May 8, 1975 and as amended by Home Rule duly enacted (Special Act No. 87) (House Bill No. 453), such amendments approved at the regular meeting of the Property Owners’ Association of Lake Hayward on August 15, 1993.

Under this legislation and the amendments thereto, POALH is a separate tax district and empowered to levy taxes, assessments and charge user fees to all property owners within the District’s boundaries.  All real estate within the limits of the Lake Hayward tax district is subject to tax based on the annual Grand List of the Town of East Haddam.

Taxes are due and payable on July 1 of each year in a single installment due and payable within a 30 day grace period from July 1 of each year. Delinquent accounts are charged 1.5% interest per month until such taxes are paid in full.
